Hi all, First time poster here and first time grower.
Anywho, I’m hoping someone can shed a bit of light on this magical art of flushing. My plant is about 3 weeks old from seed, in soil and on deaths door. Im making all sorts of newbie mistakes like putting the rooted seed from paper towel straight into a large pot, but besides possibly overwatering I think my main problem is PH level of soil is too high (about 7 according to soil meter)and probably too “hot” for a seedling. Everything I have read says flush pot to reduce PH and I think this might have the added benefit of diluting the soils nutrients a bit. But I am confused… if I pour enough water into the pot to flush, won’t the soil naturally hold on to too much water for the seedling there by causing overwatering and probably drown the roots. Or is flushing something that should only be dont from a certain grow point when the plant has enough roots to deal with all that water. Plant is in a 5 gallon fabric pot.

7.0 pH isn’t all that bad. What soil are you in and have you been feeding?
Flushing usually pushes good cannabis soils to 6.5 from either direction. It’s a bit early to be flushing a plant that can’t be more than a couple of weeks old. You probably have problems other than pH. Can you please fill out a support ticket, telling us your watering and feeding practices, as well as telling us exactly what soil you are using?

Welcome to the community ! I can see the little green nitrogen pellets in your soil leads me to believe you’re using Miracle-Gro soil. I recommend using cannabis friendly soil. Also I like to use seed starting soil to get seedling going and then transplant to something like Fox Farm. When you water those little pellets release nitrogen. Not good for seedlings. Just my thoughts good luck.
Yup, agree with @kellydans… WAY too soon to worry about flushing. If you have time released nutrients in your soil it will just make things worse. You can carefully replant with no problems… just make sure you dig out enough around the seedling as to not disturb anything.

Hi @LeafyGreens79, I’m not so sure you should trash her already. First of all stop watering so close to the plant. You want her to grow roots in search of water. Pour water that is phd to 6.0-6.5. Weed likes a little lower ph than just 7.0 tap water so all nutrients in the soil are available to the plant. When the soil has a ph at 6.8 or higher, nutrients needed, are locked out, and the plant starts feeding on itself to survive, hence the leaves start to turn yellow. Stop watering so often. I go straight to 5 gal fabric pots after only a week out of soil and have had no problems, so the pot size is not the issue, but the overwatering and at the wrong ph might be your issue. With that size seedling, I would only water every 3 days with about a quart of water spread around the sides halfway between the plant and the edge of the pot. When its dry on top and the pot feels light, its time to water.
A good way to guage whether she needs water id simple too. Pick up the pot when its dry before you water it to feel the weight. After you water her, pick uo the pot again and feel the weight. When the pot feels like it did before you water it in a few days, then its time to water again. As the plant gets bigger, you’ll increase the volume of water you’ll feed accordingly. Staying on a every 2 or 3 day schedule will keep the plant and you happy.
IMHO:
Give her another week or 2 before you trash it but you can start another just in case. I start in a solo cup with holes in the bottom of course so water doesn’t sit at the bottom too long and rots out the roots.
Also as mentioned to you above, stay away from Miracle Grow soil or nutes for weed. Its way too hot. Try to get your hands on Fox Farms soil if your new at this and want to simplify things and still get great results. All you need is ph’d water for the first 4-6 weeks before its necessary to add outside nutes. They also make a great line of nutes for weed and there are other brands as well that are geared towards weed, that can be used with the FF soils.
