Chopping Autoflower in portions

Good day all. I need some opinions and guidance when the subject of harvesting and Autoflower in portions.

I have an auto flower 63 days old. She’s extremely tall with lots of colas and Bud sites. I’m sure she’s about 30 days or less away from harvest.

She’s in a 4x4 with a lot of other girls and it’s insanely tight. For that reason I would say some of her middle and lower portion of Bud sites didn’t get adequate lighting as one would like to give due to space and lack thereof.

My question would be let’s say I find several stems that are ready to come down with perfect tricone color and some better not ready. Rather than chopping her down having a very decent amount ready but yet another decent amount not ready seems like a very big portion of the plants buds would suffer from premature cutting.

What’s your guy’s opinion on cutting off what’s ready and letting the rest keep going? What are the pros and cons?

Thank you in advance for your very kind assistance with this scenario

That plant has a long long way to go. I can’t imagine the trichomes being anything but clear. I’d just let it go.

Ya you have some time still to go before chopping for sure, in the meantime, do some defoliation on your plants to get light down lower. Defol the others too. They’ll thank you for it, just wait and see. I have heard of people chopping colas for many reasons, I have never done it. My plants typically are ready as a whole. Granted, I have had plants the same age mature longer than the others. Just look at the trichomes using a jewelers loupe. You’re getting there, they look amazing.

Great I just wanted to know if it’s safe to do or unsafe. I appreciate your opinion. When the time comes and it’s ready I just can’t see the whole thing being ready due to having so much inside my tent.

I didnt see a slow-down, took it well. I took buds and avoided cutting entire limbs, just trying ti avoid shock just in case cuz I dont know much about shocking plants but yeah it went well

I agree with you I think it’s actually smart to do it in portions of only some of the plant is ready. I saw a video where the guy harvested the entire plant when the only thing was done was the main cola. Every other branch was clear not even milky yet.

If that happens to me im letting the top get overripe, I like overripe buds. Again just opinion. Big lesson learned in past year, I can fill a tent with one plant, simplifies at least a few things

If the space is available, do it, test the waters your self.

Most say the lower bud is fluffy due to lack of light penatration, so why not… the wife harvested upper canopy allowing the lower buds to develope. It was worth it. Tighter nugs after 4 weeks.

I think you should wait a minimum of 70 days for an auto plant (I bought auto fem granddaddy purple and white widow and they are both recommended to harvest at 70 days. I ended up going longer but they would’ve been fine to harvest at the 70 day’s minimum.

I agree @Pillar
I think they recommend 70 to 75 days on this.

My question is not “is it ready”, my question is “when” it’s ready, and you find a lot more Bud sites that are not ready is it safe to harvest “what’s ready” and let what’s not ready continue in the tent.

No sure on autos, but I usually harvest my photos in stages to let the lower buds develop more. Have had great success. I cut whole branches off…some stress during flower can be good. I do 4 plants in a 4x4 tent so it is usually a little packed.

Absolutely you can do a partial harvest, I’ve done it several times :love_you_gesture:

Our first go, harvested the upper 2/3 wife let the larf, (lower area real fluffy) buds go for another 30 days, solid phat nugz. Was worth it if you have the space and time, last few grows, space not available.

Apologies for an incomplete answer.

Yes you can harvest was is ready and leave the rest to finish growing and maturing on the plant. Make sure to lower the lights.

One of the six plants I grew, I did this with and it was perfectly fine. In the end it yielded the same as the other 5 plants. And it’s a good strong batch now that it’s all together.

Some people I know take from the plant for daily consumption as it is growing and it doesn’t hurt it.

Thank you very much. She’s definitely one of my pride and joys. I’m assuming you’re referring to the picture all the way at the top it’s from a long while ago. Actually a lot bigger now she’s got colas the size of baseball bats filled with buds. Here’s a picture from today

Thank you for the feedback. I definitely planned to harvest the huge plants as they’re ready. My average plants all the buds seem pretty consistent so I’ll just chop them. I’ve got several monsters I’ll cut the branches off that are right and leave the rest to continue to grow. Spent all this time and love and money on these things you don’t want to be shortcut with small buds

Take some, leave some, works in my grow.
Removing competition or desired and letting others fill the space.
I am cutting a branch a day ( 7 weeks in flower, is early, but canopy is full.
Leave the lower small stuff for revegetating (candidate).
The cure will be important.
Good harvesting to you.
