Budget Light Decisions! HLG, VS, or SF?

Currently in the market for a budget light that will have good results for one plant all the way through flower in about a 18”x18” space. I plan on doing a mini scrog in that space.

The lights im currently looking at is the HLG 100 Rspec, Vivosun VS1000, and the Spider Farmer SF1000.

They all seem to use the same Samsung LM301 Diodes. The only big difference I can tell is that the HLG does not have a dim option.

Does anyone have experience with any of these specific lights that can give me some insight or pros and cons??

I’m a huge fan of HLG. It would’ve been my recommendation for that space if you didn’t list any options. :metal:

Spider newer lights are growing a strong reputation.

I hear alot of people raving about HLG!
But in this category, the SF and VS seem to have the same quality components with the additional dim feature.
And HLG is the most expensive of the 3…

But hlg is best of the three. Second hlg

If you’re an Amazon prime member I’d jump on the spider farmer sf1000 for $118, save $72 right now. Hlg is all quality, but without that dimmer I’d look elsewhere, having to move the light up and down just seems like a hassle to me, and if your growing in a space with limited height you’ll be grateful later.

If you got the extra money and the space I’d get the sf2000 for $216, you’ll double your light output, and if you don’t need all the wattage just simply dim it down.

I will certainly agree that having the ability to keep your light in a slightly upgraded space is a very good thing. This is an addictive game :joy:

HLG has a 25% off sale coming up. I think that I read that it starts at the end of the month. Or if you use the discount code “DUDE”, and get a 20% discount now. If quality at a reduced price that comes with great customer support interests you.

Didn’t think you could dim the hlg100?

The patriot has dimming, same price and 150w…179 before dude code. Says it has internal dimming, not sure what that means if not a knob

probably on the driver, needs a small screw driver

Most likely what they mean. Not clear

Yes this is what im leaning towards! The Spider Farmer seems to me to have very comparable quality to HLG, with the additional dim feature, and at a cheaper price!

And I dont want to dive too deep and upgrade to the 200watt quite yet. I am currently only growing for my wifes personal use (I cant partake with my current job) so one average producing plant at a time will be more than enough!

Well the 150 patriot has 50% more power considering the 1000 is a 100 watt with inferior diodes. To each there own. Best of luck, seems your mind was already made up

Also. At 150 watt is a dimmer really needed? Just raise light for veg

One last try. Would you rather drive a V8 truck at 1/2 throttle knowing that you have plenty reserved power, or would you rather drive a underpowered 4 cylinder with you foot glued to the floor?

That 150 Patriot does seem like a really sweet deal for only a little more money. With the 20% off, that light would only be about $144! With 50% more power I think I could forgive the lacking dimmer and just use the ratcheting straps for easy height changing.

It has internal dimming as stated. Worst case you gotta use a precision screwdriver to adjust. Dude code is 10% i believe , not 20 so it would be 160. Top bin hlg diodes anyday over lower bin from the competition. American assembled as well
