It’s one of my least favorite nights to work.

Is it a dual COB fixture? You probably want to be higher than that if it is…

I think so

The light is 3w 192 pcs led, i believe i found the ppfd chart it starts at 30" 573 ppfd with a coverage of around 12-14" at that height guess it will suffice for a very short time! @Drinkslinger i feel ya, you must be a bartender maybe? my boss owns a a bar called Barleys every now again i get the luxury of having 2 sling drinks when im not turning wrenches! yes that night is usually full of drunk & unruly ppl coming an going, but hopefully they are good tippers but even then the extra $ aint worth the heartache especially when u have 2 turn beertender/babysitter & bouncer been there done that! Peace

30-36" probably good then. If they start getting leggy just lower it a little.

@dbrn32 @Myfriendis410 @Drinkslinger Hi guys just made Enthusiastis ok guess im not on the bottom of the totem pole anymore! anyhoo when i want 2 ask a ? do i go thru this thread or just jump ln whenever i see a something that kinda pretains 2 my build at the time? Im lost but getting better, Is 1/16 alum L sufficient enuff 4 keeping 10 560mm Gen 2 strips running them with a hlg240hc1050? Thanks

Good question! you can post just about anything you want in a topic that you started. Try to keep them somewhat relevant to topic. If you see another topic discussing information similar to your question, that’s usually plenty acceptable too. If you’re not sure, you can always start a new topic.

How big is the 1/16" aluminum? The thickness is important, but surface area matters as well. I would think anything that size would be awfully flimsy

I used 1/8" U channel when I built mine, and there is absolutely zero heat issues on my lights…I have the drivers mounted to them and there still isn’t any heat issues like I thought there would have been.
I am however not driving mine as hard as you are, I have 10 running on a HLG120h700

Yes i suppose that info would help, 1"×24"×1/16" thick, I need 40ft total for 2 lights! I can source this angle locally at Ace hardware 5 - 8ft sticks $13ea $65 total or the options 1" heatsinkusa profile / 1"×0.5 80/20 extrusion from tnutz for roughly $25 more & those would cost an est.$35 in shipping to Nv, So now im up well over $100 for either of those 2 ! But granted i know they would do the job & look really kool but is it worth the extra $50 or so unless i was 2 utilize them on a future strip upgrade where i would need the extra cooling mass! I thought about purchasing better quality strips like the sammy f or 301b or even a qb but from what i have researched the eb’s should work just fine for my needs. I couldnt justify in my pea brain paying 3 to 4x more for those strips cuz i dont need the latest greatest bestest whatever in order to keep up with the Joneses lol, Yep my old 60’s & 70’s era vehicles will still b running when these new ones will b long gone crushed and sent 2 china 2 make american beer cans with!! No offense guys im just old school to each to their own. I apologize enuff ranting back on track here, so when i ordered my strips 2 weeks ago stock was pretty scarce so i had to mix the spectrum heinz 57 style to ensure i had enuff 4 the builds, Each light will get 4-3k, 4-35k, 2-5k but now i see theres plenty 3k strips available so im gonna get a few extras in case i may need them or if you think i should pull the 5k out of the mix! Thanks

@GreenPinkie Yea ive looked into the channel also i cant find it 4 a reasonable $ around here, I do think you did an awesome job on your build though looks really kool & clean bet your happy with the results your getting with it! Yea b4 i retired early from the U.S Govt. here i had access to all kinds of scrap metal, wood ect. for pennies on the dollar yep good ole perks miss them!

You wouldn’t really be increasing the surface area any with that size. I’m also slightly concerned that at 1/16" thick it won’t fully support the strips, and they will bow and be pretty flimsy.

If you’re going to use flat stock at 1050ma, I would go with something like 2"x1/8" thick minimum. If buying local I’m guessing won’t be that much difference in cost vs the heatsink. That’s why I recommended going with heatsink extrusion in first place anyway. You could check other sources for aluminum flat stock though.

Hey i need a little help with a diy build man and from what im being told you are the qb KING hahaha

@dbrn32 Got my light up & running, Im very pleased thanks to you and others here, In fact now i have a friend that wants me to build one for a 4x4 utilizing the eb gen2. Of course i want to keep it in series with 2 drivers just not sure what wattage i should be aiming for. Im unsure about hlg 240 vs 320 & 560/1120 strips. The lights will be used veg thru flower 3k or 35k which evers in stock at the time! I know your a busy person on here so when you get time can you give me your suggestions Thanks

See what’s available in strips, gen2 seemed to be disappearing fast. You can’t really go much bigger than hlg-240 unless you wire in parallel due to voltage limitations on strip connectors. If you find 1120mm gen2 let me know and I’ll look at drivers

Yes theres like 88 35k 1120mm available from digikey atm! I was hesitant about using the hlg 320, If memory serves me right i believe you have mentioned the voltage rating on those connectors on numerous threads. It kinda puts a damper on choices in that wattage range! I had to mix match my 20 560mm’s just to get enuff for my 2 lights now theres +680 of them available.

You sure they aren’t gen3?

You can fit 5 1120mm eb strips on an hlg-240h-c1050. You would want about 2.5 drivers worth for a 4x4. Could maybe do two drivers worth and throw 100 or so watts of 660nm strips along with them?

Ok, So basically 10 strips 2-240’s & 3 strips on 120 or the other way as you stated correct? Thanks

Yup

Depends on which module is used, but I kinda feel like 2-4 would probably be about right.
