Trying to get educated on LED lighting to maximize my grows.
Is there a “LED Lighting for Dummies” which will help me. Any books that go into PAR, PPFD, DLI in depth -with calculations?

@MidwestGuy I’ve been watching a bunch of his presentations and have learned a bunch! I’d still like to find a book as I do better with reading comprehension and I’d love to have another reference book in my collection.
There is a good collection of free PDF articles here:
HLG ( Horticulture Lighting Group) website has videos and calculators for grow support.
Learning is work. Good growing to you.
Im on the Dr.s wagon as well, not a better resume out there for teaching and understanding LEDs
Just keep cruising the website in my opinion all the info you need is right here a lot of top-notch growers pretty much everybody uses LED just check out journals and keep reading you will learn plenty
This stuff isn’t specific to led lighting and applies to fluorescent, hid, plasma, led, and any other type of lighting. The only stuff specific to led applications would be more pertaining to how they are built and operate.
If you want information on plant response to light wavelengths, intensity, duration, etc then general horticulture lighting books would apply.
Hey @dbrn32
My wife has been pushing me to change things up in my flower room to put a little pep in my step and get me a little more excited about this beautiful hobby and ssssoooooooooo…
I was thinking about a HLG Scorpion Diablo for my 4x5 scrogg table , that way i could free up alot of head space from ducting and make things a little more comfortable in there…
I’m running a 600 watt hps for that table now…
Will i be happy with the purchase…?
I know i will deep down , because i see how happy you guys are with them…
Im just old school , but i really want to change things up…
@dbrn32 please help me by talking me into making the purchase …
I just need your reassurance…
All are welcome to reassure me and add any cool things i should know about the light…
For as long as you’ve been growing with hid lights moving to a scorpion will be a different experience. I think the 2 things you will notice most is less heating of canopy and tighter node spacing. For most these are good things, but not always.
The scorpion diablo has a ppf of about 2100 umols/s. That’s double what a 600 watt hortilux bulb typically measures. You’ll also have no ir and a lot more blue and green light, which is what will keep nodes a little tighter. You’ll be done doing regular bulb changes and plants will be a little easier to see. All in all i think you would pretty happy.
Found exactly what I needed! Ed Rosenthal’s “Cannabis Grower’s Handbook” - lighting chapter. My PAR meter arrived this evening and I’m getting that figured out also. I have 3 Yunnan Dragons and a Golden Pupil that are ready for flip and I want to get the DLI correct on these 4.
Thank you for all the responses!
Museum copy? I got my first Ed’s book in 1982.
what memories.
Even better from then is now, the forum support is great and invaluable.
Looks like a 2021 edition.
