Dedicated 40. Curious what one of these is best. Or should I go a different route.

Timer plugged directly into outlet is fine

Good growing to you. My advice, check daily, check often. Children and ladies can cause trouble or get into trouble. Recent power-flicker took two oscillating fans off-line for the night/day users.

If you mean dedicated 40 as in i have a dedicated 50 amp breaker for my lights the timer switch has an independent rating, so i have 6 lights on a 50 amp dedicated but each light has a timer to not overload the timer switch.
Ever watch the movie “Saving Grace”. 50 Amps would turn their lights on, too.
