Best technique for smoking ? Immediate exhale, or hold it in?

Thanks for the help and advice I received for growing autoflowers. Now that my first grow is dry, and cured, I want to enjoy the results. I’ve come across several videos of people smoking, and it seems like all of them barely inhale, then blow out the smoke.
I started enjoying weed in the mid-1970s, and we always held the smoke in as long as possible, whether from a joint or pipe.
Is there a benefit to either practice? It seems like exhaling right away would deprive the lungs a chance at using all of the sweet weed. I realize that a lot has changed in almost 50 years ( I did take a 30 year break), but it seems like the most basic logic would suggest that holding the smoke in would be the most efficient way to smoke…
What do you say?

Same here my friend, I hadn’t smoked since the early 80s. When I smoked the GrandDaddy Purple I grew I hit it in a pipe the same way as I did back in the day. I hit it long and hard and held it in as long as I could. That was a mistake, I then hit it again the same way. Not a long story, it knocked me the Fu*^ out. :slightly_smiling_face::laughing::rofl: So you may want to go slow until you get used to the potentcy of today’s weed :+1:

I never was a fan of coughing, few small hits, enjoy the flavor. Everyone is different though.

Thanks. I think that holding it in was required to catch a buzz. I’ve heard that the herb we had access to was 2-5% potency, although rarely we would have access to Jamaican Trip Weed, Columbian, or hash. Then came Hawaiian and sinsemilla, but that was over $100 USD (as compared to brick weed at $15 per ounce or $45 for a quarter pound). But that.included a lot of stems, seeds and leaves. Homegrown or ditch weed would cause a headache and lots of coughing before you could get a buzz.
I think the weed of today is more potent than anything we could get back then (except maybe black hash)

As far as I know the alveoli absorbs the thc pretty fast and puts in directly in the bloodstream, if you only allowing smoke to be absorbed and not letting go that’s makes sense why it would hit you more , since all the thc it’s being absorbed at once , like pressing on the gas pedal and not letting go compared to just pressing it moderately, I guess it’s always about taste some like getting to 100 m/h in 3.5 sec, and some just enjoy going the speed limit

You must be in your mid 60’s to remember that shit. I can remember buying a pound of Mexican for $135.00…That’s when a nickel bag was 5 bucks.

In doing my research into vaping, I found out I’ve been going about this all wrong as everybody I know has.

Your body immediately absorbs the THC through your lungs which sends it to the heart and then the brain, (instantly!!) The effects may take a bit longer, pending on the weed, but it all works the same.
I now inhale deep and then exhale. Inhaling deep opens up the capillaries in your lungs to absorb more thc.

Yep, and ounces weren’t weighed, the bag may have been slightly flattened, and fingers held up against it, If the contents came up to four fingers, it was a good ounce. No consideration for humidity,. Broken up so badly so that even if there was bud in there, you wouldn’t be able to see it.
And I forgot to earlier mention Thai Sticks (or tie sticks ?) as the absolute most potent I had ever smoked, those effects were downright hallucinagenic.
