A question from a fellow grower:
I was wondering if I had a 4x4x8 grow tent and I was growing just 4x5 gallon buckets deep water culture
and growing a strain around 500 to 650 gm2
so will say average meet in the middle at 575 gm2
have many grams could grow if I vegged long enough to fill tent
but not so big that pails get rootbound so they will die
do you think 1000 watt hps would be enough or 2x600 hps hortilux or 2x750 gravita
how big is an average 12 ounce plant diameter and height think one of the og strains
or one you could suggest
do you think I could get 4x 12 ounce plants this way
4 foot x 4 foot is barely bigger than a square meter. So if you have a properly developed canopy you could get up to around 600 grams. A 600 watt HPS is more than plenty for a 4 foot by 4 foot area. You are not likely to get a plant rootbound in a 5 gallon DWC. One 1000 watt might work, but it could be a little too much, you are going to have a ton of heat to deal with with just one 600 watt HPS in such a confined space.
We kinda discussed this idea about yeild thoroughly here:

It really has to do with how well you control the environment. You can meet your goals in that space, but you will need temperature control and ventilation to control that and humidity.
