Any growers on here that are from Missouri or zone 6a? I’ve been thinking about putting plants outside within the next week but I don’t want to have to worry about frost killing them. Anyone from this area have any better insight as to when to transplant outdoors? This is only my 2nd outdoor grow. Last year’s grow was started much later.
Not from Missouri but as long as you’re not in danger of frost anymore you should be good. Cannabis is relatively hardy, and can withstand cold temperatures while in veg. If you start them indoors then transplant to desired locations you’ll have the best results. @Growyourown
I am in Missouri. While it looks like the temps are warming up finally, experience shows frost can happen up till may and maybe may 15. Just know until then you will need to be able to move them or protect them from freezing. We typically have an early spring cold spell that kills off early sprouts.
Awesome! Thanks for the info and the link. My plants are way too big for my space to keep inside til May lol I’m probably going to be transplanting outside in about 2 weeks and make a mini greenhouse out of bamboo and some painters plastic to put over them on the nights that get cold.
May I ask what part of Missouri you’re from?
I’m in a small town about 60 miles south of St Louis.
Near Springfield
We did some temporary greenhouses with PVC pipe.
These are the elaborate ones, we also did covered wagon style.
Yes, fellow Missourians! I know you’re supposed to follow rule of thumb for gardens in general and all the ole timers around here say wait til May 1st. It is real tempting to get them out ASAP though and the earlier the bigger the yield. Just not worth the risk. Good luck on your grows this year!
I learned a great lesson from my dad about planting. Nothing grows till the ground warms up. So you can plant May 1 or May 21 and by July both plants will be the same. Tomatoes will be ripe around July 4 no matter when you plant them. Within reason. Starting indoors and moving outside mid May seems to be a good safe system.
Any of you hunt morels? Its getting close.
My neighbor plants veggie starts and I grow from seed. He always gets mad mine are grown not long after his hahaha! Yes Morels! It seems so late this year, probably because of our never ending winter we had this year. Mouth is watering thinking about em!
I saw these pics in another thread a while back. May I see what your plants look like now?
What is the ideal soil temp? I can always find ways to keep my roots warm. Just takes a little ingenuity lol
@Growyourown You can use black plastic to help with absorbing solar heat during the day. Or black landscape fabric.
Make sure you tag @AAA so they know for sure you’re asking them.
@Covertgrower Are you talking about laying the black plastic or fabric on the ground around the base of the plant?
That’s a great idea!
@Growyourown I’m from Missouri 2hours north St Louis I’m in the same boat as you. If you lived in MO long enough you no how fast our weather changes. Wait to put outside tell Mid May. You doing pots or in the ground? If pots, wait it gets to cold at night tell mid May. Ground temps need to be at least 52 for beans to germinate. I have some Memphisto girls in the tent now but i know better than to move outdoors this early. If doing in ground black plastic is a must to put out now and get your soil warming.here few pics of my girls in tent
Good luck this year tag me if i can help!
June 4 we can start filling for our med cards and caregiver liscense! Can’t wait never thought Mo would legalize but it’s almost here!
