After the taproot has grown is it a good idea to place my seeds into a small jiffy green house in peat pots covered with a light? The seedlings will need ventilation with light spray water as well ? I plan on placing my plants into the grow room in 5 gallon hydroponic pots after this time.
I don’t want to get ahead of my self yet I want to do this right. I’ve been reading up on Roberts marajuana bible.
Thank you for every response.
Jenn
Yes, as long as they are kept warm and moist they should make it. Keep the light on 24 hours so that when they pop they have light, do that for the first week or two. Either remove the dome for a few minutes each day, or poke some small holes for ventilation. Spray with water to keep it moist, not wet.
Thank you for your advice. I’ll definitely use it. I do want to grow well & enjoy !
I’m not familiar with the jiffy greenhouse, but I assume it has a dome and should have little flaps or wheels that open up for air ventilation.
I’m sure you’ll do a great job. Sounds like you’re off to a good start.
Could you please tell me what ppm is ? I’m lost.
Sure, although you won’t need to monitor PPMs yet, but for the future PPM (parts per million) is the amount of nutrients, or solids that are present in the water you’re feeding your plant. You will need a PPM, TDS (total dissolved solids) or EC(electrical conductivity) meter to measure these solids. Most meters will measure all three because they are really the same thing in different measurements. I don’t want to confuse you, but if you’re planning on doing hydro you should research all this stuff, it will become pretty important to the grow. Also you should get yourself a Ph meter as well if you don’t already have one, it’s indispensable.
To finish answering your question, you will need to monitor the PPMs so that you know how much you’re feeding and how much your plants are eating. So every time you feed you take a reading before and after (runoff water) the feeding and the difference is how much the plants have eaten.
Raustin,
Thank you for your response. I’m definitely learning much more than I imagined. I did invest in a ph meter along with ph up & down. Many other nutrients along with lights and preparation of my hydro room.
Is a ph meter expensive? I’ll need one regardless.
Studying up on the grow is the best advice & getting my hands dirty soon !
Blessings,
Jenn
You can get a pretty cheap PPM meter. This one is $12.
I’m thankful it’s inexpensive ! Thank you for the link. Amazon is loving each of us ! Lol
I dropped a couple seeds in my shot glass and getting ready to study up on every step needed in order to succeed with the growing process.
Thank you for answering my questions and for the link.
I’m looking forward to walking into my grow room and appreciating the greatness of it all.
Praying this grow comes naturally.
Blessings,
Jenn
i am on day 5 with jiffy pellets in a humidity dome with lights off, humidity 85% temp 75,my buddy gave me 9 seeds because i am a big failure at growing. i soaked them for 24hrs then dropped then in. i just checked 1 of the to see if a tap root developed and it did. i have them in a grow box with a small heater in there at 18/6 not that it matters. would leave then on 24 but trying to save $$ on electric.
You’re not a failure until you give up! And don’t! It sounds like you’ve done your research and have a good handle on things. I bet you’ll have 9 sprouts very soon.
Welcome to the forum. You’re in good hands. You won’t find a friendlier, more knowledgeable or helpful group of people anywhere! Happy gardening!
I seriously hope each seed pops up for you ! Please let me know how it goes, I’ll let you know how mines going too !
After the tap root grows and we plant them shouldn’t they be under the light ?
Jenn
When they pop up from the soil then they need light. It doesn’t hurt to keep lights on for more heat. To germinate you do not need light. For example, the wet paper towel trick. When you soak your seeds over night you put them in a dark glass and cover the top ( no light need ) from there you empty the glass with the seeds in it on a paper towel, then you fold the paper towel and put it in a Ziploc bag and seal it. Put it in a dark warm place, I put it over my cable box in my entertainment center, wait 24 / 48 hrs and the seeds develop a tap root ( no light needed ) the put them in the soil 1/4 in down and spray with ph water 6.2 ish. Wait for the ladies to develop a second set of leaves than transplant. Sounds ez put its realy hard if your a novice like me. I lost 8 out of 10 and the 2 are holding on to dear life.
Daddydays,
Thank you for your advice. I had done as described and in 12 hrs my 2 girls had an inch length tap root. I filled a shot glass with water and placed it inside of my peat nursery. Clear dome covered. I’ve lightly misted them and I swear I can see them growing. I feel slightly nervous and I want them both to make it.
Are you growing yours in soil or hydro ? Mine will grow in hydro I hope ! I’m certain that your girls are going to make it just fine. The trick is to not over think it and read Roberts book. I am grateful for each reply .
If you don’t mind my asking what strain are you growing? Mine are northern lights female.
Blessings,
Jenn
Trying to grow 1 blueberry and 1 pineapple haze and 9 seeds my neighbor gave me. The pineapple sprouted late with nut burn, I was suprised it came up, I’m glad it did because I just lost another strawberry kush.
I’m also growing a Pineapple Haze, it’s a very temperamental strain, good luck.
Ty, you too. Going to LST with that 1.
Good idea, cause they grow tall. I’m SCROGing mine. Just keep an eye on her, mine eats a lot! She’s a pig!
