Aeroponics and root control

I’m running a DIY aeroponics system that is just a tote (reservoir), with PVC for sprayers, a pump inside, and the lid drilled for net cups.

My roots are now long enough to where some are in the water now (I keep the water level fairly low, enough to maintain proper pressures basically).

Now my question is
Is it better to trim the roots or let them dangle in the reservoir?

I’ve read here and there on both, however I haven’t found anything conclusive on what is best practice.

I did read that trimming the roots can slow growth.

I haven’t seen anything on this, but is root training/tying a thing?
