2x2, HLG 100 v2 4k, (2) Alpha Wave Auto-Fems

@Not2SureYet @ashhhh @Myfriendis410 @Covertgrower @Archer @Deepsix @Cannabian @kellydans @Nicky @beardless

I tagged a bunch of people who I do not know. I did this because I have been reading on the forum and you guys seem to be doing what I want to accomplish and I need help. I don’t reeeaallly know what I’m doing, I’ve never done it :man_shrugging:

This is what’s going down so far:

VIVOSUN 4 Inch 190 CFM Inline Fan with Speed Controller, 4 Inch Carbon Filter and 8 Feet of Ducting for Grow Tent Ventilation

MARS HYDRO Grow Tent 2.3’x2.3’ 1680D Canvas 100% Reflective Mylar Grow Tents with Removable Floor Tray for Indoor Hydroponic Plant Growing Room 27"x27"x63" for TS600/SP150

HLG 100 V2 4000K Horticulture Lighting Group Quantum Board LED Grow Light Veg & Bloom | Version 2 High-Efficiency Upgraded Samsung LM301B LED’s

FoxFarm Ocean Forest Potting Soil Mix Indoor Outdoor for Garden and Plants | Plant Fertilizer | 12 Quarts | 2 Pack + THCity Stakes

FoxFarm Liquid Nutrient Trio Soil Formula: Big Bloom, Grow Big, Tiger Bloom (Pack of 3-16 oz Bottles) 1 Pint Each + Twin Canaries Chart

This is not the first time I have grown a plant, or cannabis for that matter. It is however the most concentrated effort towards growing something I have ever done. I hope that it turns out successful and creates a continual lifetime supply of cannabis with a little hands on effort from myself. That’s the goal.

I’m totally nervous about every step because I want the results I’m seeing here; I’d like to do this to harvest around 4-6 oz over the growth cycle. My only cannabis growth experience included some cfl bulbs that turned into nothing from a clone cutting I was given and dropping some good bag seeds into miracle grow and leaving it outside and basically ignoring it. I did get maybe 5 grams of reeeeeaaallllly good weed from that, but that was from 6 plants…3 were males.

This is the game plan:

27x27x63

HLG 100 v2 4k

4in 190cfm Fan x 4in Carbon Filter

Alpha Wave (Cognition Amplifier f4 Auto [White Widow XXL x Zapotec] x Nami [Bum Wine x Witch Doctor])

2 Plants in 3 Gal. Pots

Fox Farm Ocean Forest Soil + Nutes (BB/GB/TB)

Tent assembled, fan/filter/ducting set up and light hung 9/28/2020

2 Seeds placed in water on 9/28/2020

Welcome and happy to chime in. @Covertgrower is another mentor and @dbrn32 is our lighting guru as well as another moderator. Hopefully he can weigh in on your lighting.

That’s one thing I see: your current light is going to be great in veg but I don’t think quite enough for flowering out that space. The nice thing is you could add another HLG100 about the time of flower and you’d be good. 4,000 K is a decent compromise and should flower out fine.

IMO you only have room for one decent plant in that space. You could grow two smaller plants I suppose. But it would be tight.

Thanks for the tag. I think that little light may surprise you. Good choice using soil for this. It will help keep your plants a little more manageable. Autos can be pretty unpredictable. I will be following for sure. I would add to @Myfriendis410 s. If you go another 100. I would try and spend a couple more bucks for the 135. It is great for veg and flower.

I don’t know much of anything about lighting and flower production other than the thought of more lumens being better. Would adding another 100W by putting the additional light in there be the base component that would enable harvests of 4-6 oz? I understand that this will be very much dependent on the plant itself. I guess I’m asking from your experience with autos what realistic production in wattage to space to flower has equaled out to.

I’m open to adjusting what I have going now.

I have a 4in fan, adjustable ratcheting height carabiners, and a hygrometer that I have been under the impression are things that would make the grow better.

Is there any other suggestions you might be able to think of or comments on the additional thoughts that I’ve had on this project?

Nor sure I belong in the same category as some of those you tagged. But ask away and if I have experience or knowledge that will be useful I will offer it. Glad to help if I can.

Gonna tag along if you don’t mind. I’m in a 2x2x4 with an AC Infinity S4 and 4” carbon filter. Running the HLG 135 v2 rspec. Using FFOF and same nutes as you. Just harvested a bag seed from that setup that turned out wonderful! Now i’m running a Bubba Kush (ILGM) and a Gashers (Cannarado Genetics).

Would also add a ph/tds meter if you don’t already have one.

@Not2SureYet is a monster auto grower. But he’s not a soil grower. His medium is coco.

Fabric pots are a good idea if not already mentioned. Some clip-on fans to move air around. Not knowing the region you live in but likely some control of humidity as well as temp would be necessary.

If it were my space I’d invest in an additional light, maybe 3,000K to offset the 4,000 then turn them both down to 70% or so which would be where their efficiency (watts into lumens) is at peak. That will also help a bit with heat. Small spaces are tough for heat management, FYI.

@Breezy, watch the bubba. She is a sleeper  Mine fooled me into thinking it was going to stay small. Then went crazy on me. I would do another for sure

There will be lots of topping and training I’m sure! Definitely excited for my second run!

Welcome to the forum it is a great place. I have the same tent I use for veg when I have a grow finishing and another starting. If you are thinking about a second light I’d recommend the hlg 135 Rspec I have one for my tent and love it.

I just looked through some of your grow log. That looks likes it’s probably some freaking good weed. Have you cured it enough to try it yet?

I do have the meters and it came with 2 packs of powdered ph solution. I guess it’s base and acidic powders, i’ve gotta read the package and see what it says.

Absolutely smokes great, but taste isn’t there yet. Definitely makes me hungry lmao :joy:

I will be using 3 gal fabric pots, dropping seed directly into the FFOF. I’m going to order a humidity/temp monitor and see what’s going on. The location is cooler than the rest of the house as it’s a basement that’s built into a hill, so the side that’s closest to the room is actually blocked into earth. The house is always between 70-72 and I have not put a thermometer down there, but it generally tends to seem slightly cooler. Hopefully this will keep the heat manageable, but I’m guessing you are talking in regards to adding more power overall?

Welcome to the forum!

I think you have some great help here, and excellent advice so far. I probably would have recommended a bigger light for your space, but the light you have is probably capable of providing results you are looking for. I think it’s worth giving a shot with what you have anyway. Maybe take you a grow or two to get 6, but plenty of novice growers exceed a gram per watt with that kind of light.

You may want to use more of a seed starter mix to put the seed into rather than directly into FF OF. I use FF OF and use a starter mix for all seedlings and transplants. Dig out 4 in deep and wide hole, fill with seed starter mix and your sprout will be much safer from burning than otherwise.

Welcome to the forums and thus the community, I’m honoured you decided to tag me and I will most definitely tag along with a fellow auto grower.

You already have some great advice to the few things I was thinking once I read your post.

#1 the light is good, 4k is meant more for veg but it will flower. I would agree with a 135R spec would be ideal for that space but like @dbrn32 mentioned that light will do you good to get started.
I do wonder if this is successful will you be looking to get anther tent like a 3x3 (two plants) to flower and keeping your current tent setup to veg so you will have a constant turn over?
I ask because the way you plan to go forward will help gauge what light you many want to add in that space.

Moving forward

#2 two plants may be a handful in that space but that will depend on genetics and how well you grow, including time in the garden to plant train, so I think giving two a shot is a good thing.

#3 where does that exhaust piping go to? Are you venting it outside? If not how far away? You really don’t want to circulate air as your plants are hungry for carbon monoxide (if you have a furnace downstairs they may love being beside it with their intake near the pilot light).

#4 I would also agree that you should start your plant in something just a little less nutrient rich then fox farms ocean forest. Let the roots get started in something lighter such as a seedling mix or just some regular organic soil from the hardware store (promix organic, ensure nothing has extended feed time pellets or a label “feeds 6 months!”

#5 add perlite to your fox farms. Ocean forest, you want it to be about 30% perlite as cannabis thrives in airey soil. Also available at any hardware store.

Also be aware you will need nutrients in about 3 or 4 weeks.
I always suggest powdered nutrients, but anything inside a grow store will do find out what’s on sale if anything is and focus on trusted name brands like
General hydroponics
Advanced nutrients
Remo
Fox farms
Grow tek
Etc.

Anything will work but you will find more support on the forums with those brands.
Tehcnaflora is another one bud I had a personal bad experience with their PH up/down so I’m jaded against them.

@beardless don’t get @Cannabian started lol he will share his massive garden shots all day long if you let him. He’s like a new mom on FB posting baby pictures haha

Welcome aboard ! and thanks for the tag. you have come to the right place lots of Growers here willing to share knowledge and techniques. I will be following along if I can be of any help just give me a tag.

@Nicky

I’m not sure what I’ll do after this one. If it goes great I’m gonna wanna full the whole room up tbh, but the wife wouldn’t be cool with that.

I do want two good medium sized plants ideally. A solid indica a solid sativa. Or whatever looks interesting, but some variety that couldn’t be offered by 1 plant at a time.

It will depend on what I can do with what I have now. See what happens with this and go from there.

The exhaust out of the tent just empties into the room it’s in. I have it in a spare room that I keep all my tools and crap in. Don’t have a garage

I’m confused as to what you are talking about with intake/air circulation/co2. The house has a new heat pump/ac unit that works like it should, so no residual warmth from there. Space heaters outside a tent all days probably a bad idea right?
