Hey All,
I’ve been away from growing / this forum for a while, since the end of my first grow. The first grow was very satisfying, so satisfying that I’m about to start my 2nd grow!
This time two plants. One is Bubblegum, the other Gold Leaf.
It’s not even “Day One” and I have a question…
I’m about the drop my seeds into some RO water and I’m wondering if I should pH it first? I didn’t the first time around, but it seems that all waterings and sprayings were always pH’d, so why not the initial water…
All thoughts and comments are always appreciated.

It certainly can’t hurt. When in doubt, Ph the water.

It’s not necessary to PH the water if it’s distilled or R/O. I would add a teaspoon of peroxide though to loosen the husk.

This peroxide is just over the shelf hydrogen peroxide? How much water would I be adding the teaspoon to? I was only planning on using 1.5oz (shot glass) for the water…

Hi @Myfriendis410,
Based on your use of 1 tsp and 1/4 cup (2oz) of water, I used 4 tsp mixed with 8oz of RO, pH water.
I’ll let that sit for 24 hours and then move it to damp paper towels…
Thanks for the help,
F

You bet! That’s got to beat using a nail file on the seed husk lol.
I just leave mine in distilled until they show a tap root then into media.

I use peroxide to germinate in the cup. I get 1/4" tails on all my seeds that pop within 24 hours. I use 1ml peroxide to 30ml water. No paper towel for me @HappyCamper.

Hi @raustin, @Myfriendis410, @garrigan62, @OldSkunk,
I’m having trouble with one of my seedlings. My second seedling is doing just fine using all the same soil and lighting…
The first set of “Sucker” leaves are still going strong, but the first set of real leaves are atrophying.
The BubbleGum seedling is about 2 weeks old. It’s planted in a very low nutes soil - MiracleGrow Seed Starting Potting Mix. Here are some of the other environmental info:
- 75 degrees F
- 55% rel humidity
- water is RO and pH balanced at 6.5
- lighting 16/8 LED measured at 20,000 lumens (I give mature plants 45,000 lumens)
Here’s a photo:
All advise is appreciated… Also, please invite anyone else that may be able to share advice or has experience.
Thanks,
F
@HappyCamper
Your soil is most likely causing your problems… try and get some potting soil with very little n p k and add some worm casting and some bat guano ( Mexican )
Mix em up good and take your seedling out and carefully with water clean off any soil and place. Have a gal of water and add 2 cap fills of hydrogen peroxide and Root Stimulates add this to the hole place your plant in there cover with soil add a little more water and your done. You should see a big difference in your plants in about 5 days.

@garrigan62 is right. That soil is your problem.
I purposely went with that soil because I didn’t want to go with something that was too “hot”.
Another lesson learned.
Thanks for the advice.
