After noticing that you folks are going to do all of these training technics, I have decided to drop out of the contest. My plant is an auto so I am at a vegging disadvantage. Good luck to all of you.

Lookin good!

I was planning on topping my auto. I actually cut off the first main leaf. Way more than a top. It seems to have drug out my vegging time. I am on week 6 now and just showing pre flowers. The plant is getting really nice sized. My Big Bud is is 27" tall and getting bigger each day. It is all ready bigger than my Blue Dreams which are making buds. Both are autos. I am a newbiee here but having great luck with the autos. Hang in there and I will be in your corner to help keep you motivated. Just because they are autos doesnā€™t mean they will be a tiny plant. What was it you are growing again?

This comp isnā€™t about size itā€™s quality and technics and skill used to create and buitifull plant

Quality not quantity

Youā€™re not the only one with an auto in this, Iā€™ve said why Iā€™m still here, itā€™s called learnerising and showing you donā€™t need to spend a mint on expensive equipment, to ā€œbreak evenā€ on all actual costs on this plant compared to what I pay to buy ā€œstreetā€ I would need need a yield of 3g or so (seed, perlite and cheap hydro balls, some electricity. Already had pot, compost is a ā€œbioā€ one so cost me zero thanks to ā€œecochequesā€, already paid for light and thereā€™s always decent plant food around here. Include the light, pot, etc, then under half an ounce at ā‚¬10 per g is the ā€œbreak evenā€ point). And, since Iā€™m still learnerising, when something inevitably goes wrong then with the number of people watching this thread then replies to any questions should be almost ā€œliveā€.

As I said earlier, there is an obvious flaw in the plan of this comp, and youā€™ve highlit it perfectly. You canā€™t veg an auto for 2 months and I wouldnā€™t do that with valuable growing time on a photo either. So there should have been a distinction made clear from the start, two sub-divisions called ā€œAutoā€ and ā€œPhotoā€ which could, in reality, still be done if everyone says what strain and whether itā€™s auto or photo, someone else can sit there with the list becxause I know one of you effers, and likely a female, will have a sort of obsession with lists, so this turns, effectively, into two comps with an overall ā€œprettiestā€, extra points awarded for the cheapest, most half-assed setup that somehow produces more than a stretchy beanpole with a few bits of bud scattered here and there (I see I may have some competition there).

You highlight another glaring issue showing how things were ā€œnot thought throughā€, that being that no matter how many times itā€™s said to be a ā€œbit of funā€, or ā€œa laughā€, SOMEONE will take it more seriously and that is only likely to get worse as the months go on. The time-period is a problem too, some people will simply not wish to do a plant for so long so more and more will drop out leaving only two people waving their genitalia at each other come September, IF it lasts that long.

No, comps are great ideas but there has to be some thinking involved first. I have my reasons for still being here, as said above, unless thereā€™s special bragging rights for ā€œBest use of string as a support methodā€, because I know Iā€™m not going to get anything special off my auto, but given itā€™s been 4 weeks (Chalkyā€™s now 23 days above ground, add on germ and sprouting time, yeah, thatā€™s a month) since I killed a plant Iā€™m just happy I can still be involved.

Anyway, been in to say ā€œGood morningā€ and my hyper-expensive LED panel has has to be lifted by an inch or so again. Iā€™m very aware of the sort of bleaching you can get from LED light. With my panel, I have found a very scientific method of knowing when the ā€œdanger zoneā€ is approaching, and that is called ā€œWhen it gets close enough to being the width of my hand with the fingers and thumb held together, flat.ā€. Highly scientific, yet works.

Itā€™s something else some should remember, itā€™s a bleeding plant, as long as you are not working at extremes of temperature, humidity, ph and so on, then RELAX because everything does not need to be measured to a 16th of an inch, you donā€™t need to get food dosage to the EXACT millilitre, use your Mk 1 Eyeball more and be a better judge of ā€œyeah, about thereā€ as if you go in wound up and being over the top on controlling every single aspect of the environment then you WILL over or under do something. This little plant we treat as more valuable than our first born has a WIDE range of operating parameters so RELAX, back off a bit because if you try too hard you will screw up.

I find it interesting that people think u canā€™t get a good yield from an auto. I know a few members in here who would prove that wrong.

The sole reason we put a time limit on it was to make it fair. No one can veg for 8 weeks and harvest in time. There is no minimum time so those who donā€™t want to grow that long donā€™t have to and can still participate. There was a real effort made to be inclusive of everyone

But by saying ā€œseed must have popped in a specific time period in Aprilā€, you automatically make it a competition where those with the wish, will and/or ability to veg for 2 months to do so when you think of 8 weeks flower time for many strains, original date I saw to end was September so thatā€™s the thick end of 6 months, 2 months veg time is easy in that time period.

Oh, Iā€™m not saying that I donā€™t think you can get a ā€œgoodā€ yield from an auto, Iā€™m saying that my level of experience means I will get a yield which will be ā€œadequateā€ given my ability, experience and equipment and likelihood of completely messing things up. Itā€™s called ā€œbeing realisticā€ and anything above such low expectations is a bonus!

Hereā€™s Ariel, sheā€™s growing fast. Everyone that entered the contest is a winner in my eyes. Just sharing pics and information is the prize. Learning how different people grow under different circumstances is just amazing. Have a great day everyone especially all you MOTHERS out there.

Sept would b 5 months. I know we are in different parts of the world but the calendar is the same. That includes germination to dry. No one can veg 8 weeks and make it

I did the timeline and made sure if it

That was not my understanding, including drying/curing time, IIRC it was anything from the last 20 days in April until Sept 15 and, by that very self same calendar you talk about that means 22 weeks which did not include drying/curing, so you can see why I ainā€™t the only one thinking that an auto was a clear disadvantage over those who can veg for 2 months. Even then thatā€™s still 8 weeks veg, 12 weeks flower, 2 weeks dry as had my Haze been a photo it would have been counted as the same age as it would have qualified due to have having broken ground within the defined period, never mind including the seed cracking time which I do not count in the ā€œageā€.

Doable? Oh yeah, even for someone as inept as me.

Okay everyone. Since you have shown me and my auto so much love, I have decided to once again to join the competition. So, we are back in by popular demand.

Good, therefore we can automatically have a distinction between ā€œautoā€ and ā€œphotoā€, a sub-competition if you wish, where weā€™ll have the plants most likely to finish the earliest, mine definitely showing clear start to flowering at day 23 so am expecting finish closer to the end of next month IF she lives through to the harvest.

If nowt else we get a good selection of growth and bud porn in one place.
