A question from a fellow grower:
I am a first time recreational grower, growing one plant indoors. The last week or so my plant has developed a ton of this yellow/orangish powder all over it! Some of my flowers are falling off. I started with flowering about two or three weeks ago. I haven’t found any information on this in the Grow Bible. I have put so much time and energy into this one plant for so long now. I hate to see it deteriorating before my eyes. If you could help with any information at all, I would be very grateful. If you’d like pictures, I could send those too. I hope you have some insight. Thank you so much for your time!
Sorry, but I have some bad news for you.
You have a male, or mostly male plant. Its flowers are now opening and dropping their yellow pollen all over the place. This plant is done. You might be able to use it for cooking, but it won’t make very good smoke at all. The cooking material won’t be very strong either as it is a male and all.

On a positive note, you do seem to have learned pretty well pruning and topping and if it was a female it would have developed a bunch of nice buds as colas in a similar shape to the flower clusters of this male plant.
So don’t consider it a loss or waste of time, if you put the same time and effort into a proper female plant you will be very happily rewarded, you would’ve had a great yeild if it had been a female plant.
Thoroughly clean the entire room with a bleach solution to clean and remove and kill any pollen and even any mold or fungus spores and start again with a female plant. If you have problems identifying sex early on, post pictures here and if you can get a good close up we can probably help you know for sure.

Thank you for the information. Yes, a complete bummer, but a very good learning experience. This plant was from a couple of seeds that I brought home from a trip to Jamaica, so no real loss. I have purchased some White Widow seeds from ILGM that I’ve got two seedlings growing from. So, I will start anew tomorrow! Thank you for all the support!

Okay, I have two autoflowering white widows that are a few weeks old now. They seem to look like they are flowering already…?
Yes, sometimes stresses can trigger auto-flowers to flower at a very young age.

But you say a few weeks? This might not be early at all, autoflowers are grown because they flower from seed in a relatively short time.
There is nothing you can do, that is what autoflowers do, they flower automatically, they can’t really be altered with photo period like regular photo-period sensitive strains are.

Also, it looks like those are in some small containers. Autos will often flower very small in small containers. Most people say you pretty much have to start autos in their “forever” home, and start them in at least a 2 or 3 gallon container.

One is in a 5 gallon bucket and the other is in a three. So do I just go about trying to grow and harvest it or is the amount that I would yield not worth it?
Also, they are 32 days old.
Does the bucket drain well? Is the soil well aerated?
I honestly can’t say for sure how much bigger they’ll get, but they won’t get a great deal larger. It is up to you, you’ll certainly get something.
If the roots had problems developing, this is most likely what contributed to small and maybe early flowering. Of course you gave no other info on how you were raising them, maybe light and/or temp and humidity played a roll.

I believe everything else is set up correctly… Soil, humidity, etc. I’ll just have to wait and see how much I get. Something is better than nothing lol.

5 gallon bucket is way too big for this plant. Wasting 50% of the soil you use is what will happen. No bigger than a 3 gallon garden pot would be more than adequate for this auto flower. Just trying to save you a couple bucks.
