What is this? I thougt it was mold but not sure after magnifying 100x

I’ve been growing inside for 2 years. This is my first outdoor grow. It is finally legal in Maine. I’m worried about mold so I have been checking the plants regularly. Today I noticed black on the leaves near the forming buds. I magnified it 100 times. It looks more like a hard black substance than fuzzy mold. These three pictures are 100x. Anyone know what this is. It a Jack Herer.
Also look at picture 3, there is a clear bug on the leaf. What is it?

Thank You,

maybe a spider mite? not sure of what’s going on with the dark color though… have you grown this strain before? and what stage is the plant at?

I am pretty new to this but have done regular gardening for a few years. I am going to go out on a limb here but those black things look like the pupal stage of some insect. Is that under an LED light? Pupal stage of a spider mite is a yellowish color so not sure. I could be wrong but look at them up close and that is what they resemble, except for the color. Who is a bug specialist around here. Maybe @Majiktoker or @garrigan62 ??

@jaxn

I believe you have spider mites.

spider mite #2

Use this on them

Tabacco Juice recipe

Take 3 strong ciggeretes soak them over night in water
Boil it for 2 to 3 miniutes, along with the hottest hot sauce you can find. let it cool off and spray the plants 3 to 4 times a week. You can add safer soap if you like to the mixture. Then strain it throught ladie nylons. tthat’s what i use or you won’t be able to spray the mix. This works great…
(make absolutly sure you use gloves/face protection while handling and spraying)
Neem oil works very well too!!

Thank you for all the replies. I will try the tobacco juice recipe.

The light is an LED built into the USB microscope

Haven’t seen it said, but throw those affected leaves away outside the garden.

:dizzy_face:Kill it!! Kill it with fire

Frigging kreepy lil guy

This isn’t Spider Mites or Aphids. I haven’t given up on the plant yet. The bug is black just like the leaves with the black larva looking stuff on them. It is an 1/8 inch long, moves fairly fast if provoked. The first 2 pictures are the bug in action. The 3rd is after I squished it with my finger, the 4th is a spot on the leaf. Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks

I think I found what this black bug is. It may not be a bad thing. It looks just like the black things on the leaf above. Let me know what you think. There are no signs of Spider Mites anywhere on the plant

LBug Larva

It’s a larvae from a ladybird (or ladybug). Judging by the stripe pattern it is a Common Spotted Ladybird (wiki: Harmonia conformis) and from the body shape & size I’d also say 3rd instar.

The one you have photographed, and the one on flickr, are larval forms of the ladybug, just like when a catepillar becomes a butterfly, the ladybugs also have a larval stage in their life cycle which crawl around and look very different to the adult form.

They can eat 1500 aphids a day
