Legal in MA, Soil in 4x4 Tent, CLW SS550, White Widow - Purple Haze - Bubblegum - Gold Leaf

It’s been 10 Years since I’ve grown. Now that it’s legal in Mass, I’m giving it another go!

I wanted to try some new things, aim for quality over quantity, and test out a variety of strains.

In a 4x4 I’m going for a total of 6 plants flowering.
As of now I’ve got 2 each of ILGM Feminized White Widow, Purple Haze, Bubblegum and Gold Leaf.

I’m using T5’s for the seedlings but have one CLW Solar System 550 that I’d like to put them under before too long. I’ve got another on order so eventually (certainly for flower) I’ll have them under 2 CLW SS550’s in a 4x4 tent.

Here goes, fingers crossed!

Here’s a photo of my tray for what it’s worth. I have the dome on normally, it’s just off for the pictures, and the humidity is a little low in the photo because the dome is off.

There’s 2 seeds from each strain here. They are as follows from L to R

WW, BG, GL, PH

not much to see here except that I’ve tried to follow a germination style I came across on another forum posted by a user named Xlr8.

I soaked the seeds overnight and them placed them directly into Rapid Rooter plugs that I had soaked over night as well. I placed a torn piece of RR plug material to cover the seeds and the holes they are in so the light doesn’t reach them and so they have to work a bit to pop up.

I’m trying to keep them around 77 degrees and around 60% humidity in the dome.

Here’s a close up of the Rapid Rooter plug with the hole gently covered, in case anybody is interested.

I started this over grow over the holiday break, so I’m catching up with these posts now. There will be a few in a row, but I wanted to keep them semi-organized, so I’m updated piece by piece anyhow.

I put the seeds in the plugs on 12-21. 2 days later I got my first sprouts peeking up.

One Bubble gum and one Gold Leaf came up at about the same pace.

I will follow your topic with great interest :relaxed::wink::innocent:

By the end of day 3 all 8 seeds had sprouted. So far so good.

Here’s a quick look at everybody 5 days after the seeds went into the cubes. Just in case anybody out there finds it helpful.

They started looking a little lanky to me here. So I started working a bit to get the light closer.

I lowered the light 4’ 4 bulb HOT5 to just about 2 inches from the top of the dome. This was bringing the temp in the dome up higher than I wanted (I think) so I brought in a fan and, on low setting, I aimed the fan up into the center of the light above the dome to move some of that warm air away.

It’s a balance but it’s leveled out ok now around 77-78 again and hopefully the girls won’t get too tall right in the beginning. Actually, I’m not even sure if this is really a problem or not, but I noticed a lot of people’s pics of seedlings weren’t as tall as mine, and I’m not aiming for tall plants.

I done this using jiffy peat seed starters on three white widows, worked out great @Sconi! no worries about damage to tap root when trying to put them after they have busted open their see d shell… i shake some and this was an issue for me…i lost one AK-47 because of this. looking good !!

Enjoy your adventure bro
Post pics we love em lol

That is something I have never heard said about MA. Usually people are so outta here with the foolish laws. Maybe they finally got one right? I hope so!

I hear ya @Countryboyjvd1971 I grew up in the Midwest and South and over the years I have spent considerable amounts of time driving through your fine state. Upstate is awesome. Nice folks too. Something happens in the south eastern end of the state, though. You guys should split off from them and make your own state. Might as well. MA is like that too. Most people around the Boston area think the state lime is just around Worcester and have no clue of the mountains and beautiful country on the other side of the state (I grew up in the boonies and I’m really not a city guy, no offense to any city dwellers).

I am happy to see the Maine is following MA lead. I think their new laws go into effect next week?

@Sconi looking good! We’re all rooting for ya!

You’re so right even though I was born/raised in Mass I’ve only been back here five years and I miss my 20 acres up in New Hampshire

The only redeeming thing in Mass, in my opinion is the beautiful beaches …thank God I live by the coast

At the end of day 6, everybody had nice roots beginning to pop out of the RR cubes, so I put them all into soil for the first time.

I put the plugs right into Happy Frog in these little pots. I read that FFOF can be a bit strong at first so I went with HF for this first stage. I plan to change to FFOF when I move on to the final containers. (as of now I’m planning 5 gallon grow bags)

They’re all in the same places they were before, mostly for my brain.

Thanks everybody for the welcomes and well-wishing.

It’s been so long since I’ve tried my hand at this that I feel like it’s my first grow. In truth it is my first grow from seed.

I’ve scoured these forum and others as well in the past month trying to get my head around everything again. I’m very appreciative of the generosity of information provided by y’all.

I’m out of photos to post at the moment but I’ll be going to check on the girls tomorrow. I’ll have some more pics soon.

Here’s the little ladies on friday!

Everybody seems to be looking pretty good. I was hoping to top them all once but they weren’t quite big enough yet so I held off. I’ll get to that next week sometime. They’ll be ready to re-pot next week as well. Does anybody have thoughts on doing both at the same time. topping and re-potting in the same day? seems like it might not be the best idea but perhaps would be ok? I’d love opinions. I’m not able to be there everyday so I’m trying to consolidate my changes as best I can without over stressing them.

I switched them to the CLW SS550 light this week. Not sure if that was the best move at this time or not but I wanted to see how the plants reacted to the spectrum and LED in general, as well as switching them to 18-6. I’m hoping that I could get better root development and growth based on things I’ve read online. I’ve got the SS550 set to R20 W40 B40 @18". similar to a grow I found online. At those numbers it should be about 115-120w at the wall. or something like that.

The downside to this is that with the LED 18" away from the plants they’re not staying as warm as they were directly under the HOT5. I’m going to check back soon to make some other adjustments to try to keep the temps up a bit higher. They were holding strong around 77 in the dome with the HOT5 but under the LED it’s only about 68 with the lights on and 59 with the lights off. I don’t think this will be too detrimental for a day or 2 until I can get back there(fingers crossed) but I do want to get it sorted out so they can live closer to 77 again.

I would love to hear any thoughts or advice that y’all may have.

Here’s some pics. These are with the SS550 on. I didn’t shoot these in the view mode. instead I dialed up the white all the way and added a touch of red and blue. I think in the future I’ll shoot the pics under plain white. to see how that differs.

Thanks for reading.
