Learning how extreme GSCX really is

@hillbilly103 and @Myfriendis410 Sounds like you guys have some nice collective gear.
I don’t have any thing that nice and can only shoot about 200 yards consistently . But I’m getting better.

I’ve hunted a lot of critters in lots of different places and the only times I’ve shot to harvest game further than 200yds were hunts just to shoot at long range. Like Prairie dogs in South Dakota or such.
99% of the animals I’ve killed have been 100yds or closer.
So being a reliable shot at 200yds is golden.

That’s awesome @hillbilly103 to be able to hunt all over . I only have a few deer kills, only one at 227 when I ranged back to the blind . It really was luck as I missed my mark and hit low, real low. A 30/30 wasn’t ment for that. That’s why I use my 35 Whelan now with 200gr harnady , kicks like a mule but it a tack driver

@hillbilly103 has it right: long range shooting is generally reserved for varmints, sheep and bad guys. Hunting is about getting in close. Not always possible and you always want to be ready for that shot of a lifetime. Long range rifle is a highly technical game and my hat is off to you. Hunting deer though @Wishingilivedina420state is set up fine IMO with a 30-30. I plan to carry my model 94 Saturday after next for OUR deer opener.

The only reason i took that shot was i was low on meat and it was last week of season. Any other time I letem walk if I can’t call in .
And your right huntting is getting in close. And I prefer it that way , but when my wife says baby we need meat I gotta do what I gotta do.

My dad’s favorite saying was “ya don’t eat the horns”
I’ve always felt a 30-30 was is the deer rifle.
Young man I ride with works in coal mines. Few years back mining dried up and he lost his job.
The whole area lives off the mines so everything dried up. He couldn’t find work and couldn’t afford to move. He’s married with 2 kids and the $300 a month unemployment and $100 food stamps just didn’t go far enough. Local food banks had lines longer than the supply of food.
So each week I used 1 of my damage stamps and killed them a deer, another buddy made sure they had milk and another made sure they had canned vegetables.
All in all it wasn’t much but it made a difference.
It’s just what friends do

We do okay at home, but prefer to know where our red meat comes from and there isn’t anything better than venison! I’m allowed two bucks per year and it all goes in the freezer. Ground venison tacos yum! Backstrap on the grill. Oh, yeah!

@hillbilly103 that’s awesome you and your friends take care of each other that way. At least y’all have friends like that to watch each other’s back. And your right a 30/30 is it.
That caliber has killed more white tail deer in this country than any thing else so far. And is still the first gun I check every year. Mostly because the scope is crap but that’s ok.
