First Grow From Beginning to End

We all love to see plants nooobs or not! The first set of leaves you described that are curling will eventually yellow and die. They’re not needed anymore. @merlin44 everything is looking good.
The other reason, despite the plants being young, they’ll have beautiful flowers someday, and everyone loves a good bud porn pic. lol

At this stage my “bud porn” is not even PG-13. They may mature to something worth looking at.

Well right now, I would consider them jail bait, but they grow up fast! Too far @merlin44? Lol

@Covertgrower, I was trying not to go there, but that was my first thought (actually a bit worse-LMAO).:rofl::joy:

Before you know it you’re gonna have big, sexy, luscious pot porn to share with us. For now we’ll settle for the hard candy.:rofl:

@Niala, I just reviewed the diagrams that you sent regarding FIM’ing as I will be doing this in a couple of days, it seems. I have not yet decided whether to do it at 5 nodes or 6.

I had better get “off the dime” as the crop is growing and will need some attention soon.

I do it at 4th or 5th node myself

What are the factors to consider 4 vs 5 vs 6 nodes?

What do you count as the first node?

The first node is where the very first set of true leaves start, this does not include those round feeder leaves. So after the feeder leaves start counting nodes. Most people FIM on the 5th node, but I think it depends on how long you’re going to keep your plants in vegetation and how you want them to grow.

I top at fifth

Not much practical difference. Your branch points will be a little higher. If height is an issue then yes; best to top or fim early.

…for this exact reason. I’m very limited, height-wise.

@elheffe702 @Myfriendis410 @raustin @countryboyjvd1971 , thanks for the replies and information. I will likely go ahead and FIM the Gold Leaf plants this evening and wait for two days before FIM’ing the White Widows.
I don’t have much of a height issue, 6 - 7 foot plants would be manageable (5 ft would be ideal) . I just don’t want to delay getting to flowering. I am assuming that I should FIM the branches when they have a few nodes as well and then there is the recovery time.

I am a long time from flowering at this point (a month or two). I keep reading about light leaks and the impact on flowering. Does light leakage or brief dark during the “day” affect the plants during veg?

How much light leakage does it take to screw up the flowering stage?

Depends how severe the light leaks are @merlin44 . If it’s really bad, like leaving a tent door open, with the light on that’s bad. But if your tent is in a dark room, closed, and say a light is on in the hallway, I feel this is okay. The amount of light that’s getting in say around the zipper, is acceptable to me. There are others that will say this is bad.
My thoughts are when cannabis is in the Wild they still get moon light. Just my point. There’s reasonable precautions to be taken, but overkill can be overkill. I’ll let others weigh in on this, who may be pickier than myself.

If I understand, you’re asking if periods of darkness during the lights on/day time will interrupt anything, and the short answer is no. However, I’ve read that mixing up the lights on/off times can cause your plants to become hermaphrodites. But the critical thing is keeping them in the dark without interruptions, mainly during flowering.

@elheffe702, the two main reasons for the question are:

  1. Just how careful do I need to be to insure that the flowering plants don’t do something stupid.
  2. I turn off the main lights and leave white light LED floods on for photographs during the plant’s “day time”. This is usually for 1 or 2 minutes.:writing_hand:

First: autos don’t care. If you are talking about photo period plants it’s going to be dependent on the strain and the other ambient conditions. In other words; if you were in flower but had ph issues, pests, heat stress etc and then a light leak well, you may end up with a gender identity crisis lol. There is one member who had a plant misbehave because of the red led on his dehumidifier! So small leaks are probably okay but why take chances if you don’t have to?
