First Grow From Beginning to End

This is the only site I’ve ever joined. And I am blown away by the quality of information and members on this website. Like somebody just said on this post even when people disagree they disagree politely and then they state the reason why they disagree. There is actual respect for the fellow Growers on this website. You think that would be common sense but it really isn’t if you read different websites and forums. It’s really refreshing and cool that everyone on this website wants everyone else to succeed and grow the best possible medicine they can with the equipment they have.
Remember ask any question you want there are no dumb questions. People here are always willing to help and like somebody else said if they can’t help they’ll direct you in the right direction. And if you aren’t doing it yet one other thing I found extremely helpful is to create a notebook or journal to write everything down that you do. You’ll find that will help you out in the future. Take care happy growing

My bad hornhead. I was under the impression that you were new. I saw some pictures on a post you’re doing and I can see you are not new. Your stuff looks really great! Anyway my bad have a good night. Keep on with what you’re doing.

@neckNflu, that sounds like a sound strategy, more less the direction I have been leaning since my less than graceful transplant. Thanks for taking the time to write it out for me to study.:writing_hand::man_scientist::+1::thinking:

No problem. If I find something that works I hope that I can pass it along to somebody. Heck knows I’ve taken so much from this website I’d like to start paying back with some solid information. But I’m still learning. Loving it though.
Merlin you’re off to an awesome start I can only hope the next one I do starts off as solid as yours did. I will be following this post and probably reading them again as I go along. So thanks for doing this.

I’m out of likes. So here’s a thumbs-up and a “tree” Haha :+1::deciduous_tree:

It seems that I am out of likes nearly every day. @TDubWilly presented an interesting idea,

Very true @neckNflu, quite remarkable. Even in a place where weed is “legal”, there are too many (social, professional, legal) risks to openly discuss the topic of MJ cultivation. It is great to have a community of people to learn from and share with. I also appreciate the fact that most folks steer clear of politics here and focus on what we all have in common.:+1:

I appreciate you insights, @neckNflu.

@Countryboyjvd1971, I will transplant the Gold Leaf plants tomorrow or Sunday. The White Widow will move in about a week is my guess.

When I transplant from the 2 gallon to 10 gallon pots, is there a special technique to minimize stress? At this point I am planning on making slotted piece of plywood to fit around the stalk, invert onto the plywood piece then, hopefully, put into preformed hole in new pots.

If there is a better or easier way, please let me know…

I just used my hand. If you let them dry to just the right moisture level, they stay together pretty good. The plywood is ingenious though!

Yeah, @elheffe702, I was going just use my hand (I have pretty large meat hooks) but the 2 gallon pot seems like a lot to support. I will know for certain in a day or two. Letting it dry will require waiting until Sunday since I just watered two days ago.:calendar::palm_tree: Thanks for feedback.

Also, if it’s nearing being root bound, the roots will actually help hold the soil together, too!

That would be ideal but it has only been 13 days since going from the starter peat pots to the 2 gallon. Has there been enough time for substantial root formation?

What type of pot? You should be able to see roots poking out through the holes.

Sounds good @merlin44 as long as you let it dry out a little they’ll transplant fine. You’d be surprised how fast and far roots grow. If you can see them out of the bottom, there will be enough in the others as well.

They are 2 gallon nursery pots, 9" diameter and 11" tall. There are holes around the bottom that I stick my finger in to test for moisture (in addition to a probe from the surface). I didn’t see any roots when I checked them this morning. They certainly had lots of roots sticking out of the sides and bottom of the starter pots (reason for early transplant to 2 gal.)

@merlin44, don’t be afraid of transplanting. These plants can handle a lot. As long as you don’t drop her, she’ll be fine in your hand. In fact, she’ll probably fall right out of her pot when you turn her over. Don’t worry, you got this. :relaxed:

Actually, I’ve dropped quite a few, and they turned out fine.

Thanks @raustin, I should just smoke a bowl (when I get off work), calm down, and stop obsessing.:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Thanks, @Covertgrower, every step is a learning experience as the only thing that I have ever grown was a mustache several decades ago.

I think you could keep them in those pots for a bit longer or until u see a root bed ! But if you had a good root Ned on the smaller pot they should still b tight. I just don’t want you to disturb the root ball you had with the smaller pots if you know what I mean but you for sure want them to b dried up a bit and usually I just use my hand and flip it over . But recently I started using the disposable grow bags and u just cut the bag away and you can almost do it i your new pot and slip the bag out for future grows. Makes it a lot less messy too

Thanks @timmyv324, they really did not have a root ball when I put them in the 2 gal. pots, too young, the soil just fell apart - I was worried that I had killed them by doing that to them. I transplanted because I was concerned over the copious number of long roots that were growing out of the peat pots. Maybe I will wait a bit. Currently the Gold Leaf plants are about 13" wide (fan leaves) in a 9" diameter pot. The secondary growth is still only about 1 - 1.5 inches in length/height.

I personally would wait til I knew my root ball was tight in the pot they are in . But that’s just me a 9” pot is pretty good size it will grow for a bit in that. All depends on your situation I guess
